Watermedia by Diane Shipley
I have had a love for art since childhood – especially painting. I wanted a career as an artist but work and raising a daughter came first. I have now retired and am devoting my time to painting.
I had worked with acrylic but always had a desire to try watercolor. After completing my first class in 2009, I knew I wanted to explore watercolor further. I enjoy the movement of watercolor and the fact that it flows, as if it has a life of its own. It can take on a magical quality that sometimes cannot be controlled and I find that very exciting.
Acrylics can have a more intense and vibrant color. Acrylics are forgiving. I can change my mind about color, placement of objects, or change the entire concept if I wish. I find colors fascinating no matter what medium I use and am always intrigued with the use of texture in my paintings.
I can immerse myself in representational art but also find a sense of freedom when I am doing abstract work.
I am a member of the Laurel Art Guild, Baltimore Watercolor Society, Montgomery Art Association, The Cider Painters of America, and The Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, DC. A website featuring my art work can be found at dianeshipleyart.com.
