Jon considers himself a lifelong doodler. He has always found joy in putting pencil or pen to paper. While occasionally finding success in recreating images before him, he would often just allow his imagination to wander. A favorite medium was the fresh backside of a paper menu, when he was out with his parents and siblings.
Although he always enjoyed this creative side, he did not pursue formal instruction beyond a few classes in Public High School, and fundamental training obtained through a brief association with the Art Instruction School [of Minnesota.] via correspondence. These did, however, provide him with sound basics to draw upon when needed.
As Jon and his wife [Tina] raised their four sons, his creativity often took a backseat to other activities. But, he did manage to find the time to send handmade birthday, anniversary, and other greeting cards to family and friends - as well as develop a love of creating pictures using the letters of people's names.
In 2009, Jon met a very interesting man, Dan Cagle. He is a professional artist who uses insulation foam as a canvas for his work in acrylics. Dan shared his technique, combining elements of sculpting and painting, and Jon suddenly had a new avenue for this imagination to wander upon. This discovery, coupled with his membership in the Laurel Art Guild in 2014, has brought his creativity to the forefront and planted a desire to improve his God given talents. He credits his association with the members of LAG for providing opportunities to display his work and encouraging his development as an artist.
