Charles Keach
Charles Keach has earned his way in this world for many years, not as a professional artist, but as a psychologist. Thoughts, feelings, and visual impressions were not truly united for him before 1980. It was then that newly found spiritual belief reawakened dormant talents. There were memories of juvenile admiration for cartoonists. This had brought some emulation; he was briefly the art editor of his high school newspaper, and a staff artist for the school yearbook. Pen and ink and pastels were all he knew then.
In the early eighty's, for four years or so, Skip Lawrence was the teacher, and watercolor became the medium of choice. Some instruction in portraiture, using charcoal and oils also was obtained. The workshops attended since those days of reawakening have been many. Juried entries into Laurel Art Guild and Patuxent Art Leaque shows have been obtained for several paintings, quite recently, since another period of dormancy.
People are present in the majority of his paintings. A spiritual dimension may also be discerned in some. Charles is committed to self affirmation through the creative process. "I believe that, consciously or not, I convey who I am through a single painting far better than I could through thousands of words".
